Multi-Wire Wipers

Multi-Wire Wipers, also called multi-contact wipers, are used in contact systems with high current transmission quality.

About Multi-Wire Wipers

By distributing the electrical signal to be transmitted to as many contact points as possible, they guarantee high contact reliability.

Using the welding process developed by Heraeus, multiple wires can be joined directly with the carrier material to form these so-called multi-wire wipers. Unlike the wipers manufactured by means of stamping technology, the multi-wire wiper is made by welding up to 40 wires parallel to each other onto a support material. This significantly increases the number of contact points of each contact area.

The large number of individual wires of spring-hardened contact materials and their adaptation to variable contact tracks provides an optimal electrical contact. By using corrosion resistant contact materials, multi-wire wipers are also suitable for application in corrosive media, e.g. in fuels.

The large selection of standard designs (open tool designs), which are available without any additional tooling charge, is a particular advantage for you. However, it is also possible to design the multi-wire wiper individually according to your requirements.

In addition to individual multi-wire wipers, we are also able to offer you complete modules as well as heat-stacked, overmoulded, or joined multi-wire wipers.

We would be happy to advise you.

Advantages

Our service includes a comprehensive, knowledgeable, and &customized consultation. Just tell us about your application. We will work with you to determine the product design and plan the material pairings as well as the quantities.

  • Large number of contact points offer excellent contact reliability
  • Contact force set individually by adjusting the bending angle and spring rate
  • Long service life and extreme resistance to corrosion through the use of precious metals
  • Dependable in temperatures ranging from -40 to +250°C
  • Cost efficient due to the large selection of standard designs (open tool)
  • Low weight and simple processing

Applications

Our reliable and durable multi-wire wipers are in demand for numerous applications in a wide range of different industries:

  • In measurement and control technology as rotating, sliding, and trimming potentiometers
  • As position indicators in linear or angular position transmitters
  • In automotive technology as contact elements in fuel gauges, oil pressure indicators, and in position transmitters for butterfly valves, steering wheels, accelerator pedals, and gear levers
  • As coding switches in rescue service technology, communications technology, and defense technology
  • As sliding switches in information electronics
  • For transmission of signals or electrical current between moving parts in slip ring systems or in small DC motors
